I love this book despite that masculine takes precedence and God is the word. It’s a treasure of mystical insight and such insight transcends cultural writing conventions. I love it for things like this:
Within myself is a metaphorical apex of existence at which i am held in being by my Creator.
God utters me like a word containing a partial thought of Himself.
A word will never be able to comprehend the voice that utters it.
As an astrologer I see each one of us along with our horoscope as a metaphor for each other. It also seems that our life’s journey is a metaphor through which we come eventually to understand the nature of existence.
Merton was an Aquarian with the Sun conjunct Uranus. Among other things!
