Sun enters Scorpio: 1:20 PM EDT
Although Scorpio can have a reputation that precedes it, it’s a bit of an astrological stereotype to simply back away, just because someone was born under this complex and often difficult sign. There is so much more than we see or even understand in the realm of Scorpio. The difficulty we have being or dealing with this sign is the difficulty we have understanding our shadowy qualities. We are horrified by the terrible things others do which are hurtful but we can be oblivious to our own harmful behaviors. Everyone has Scorpio somewhere in their horoscope. This year the sign of the scorpion, snake, eagle and phoenix will meet up with Neptune, Saturn, Pluto and Uranus. Most dramatic might be that Mercury will be retrograde in Scorpio and there will be a somewhat rare event called a transit of Mercury. (For specifics, see below.)The next one isn’t until 2032. Generally speaking, Scorpio’s journey this year offers a lot of opportunity to see and use the power of transformation through the deeper, inward aspects of spirituality, murky and close in to each and every one of us. You might say it will show us a kind of gut level spirituality which requires only that we feel what we feel: A big ‘only’.
It’s a Mercury retrograde month. Get aligned here.
Venus sextile Pluto
If you can be truly honest about what you want, listening to your gut level promptings on this matter, and if you know that it ‘harm none’ it’s a good day to nurture desire in all the ways that will help it grow toward manifestation. The challenge is most likely in knowing what you want in the first place. It’s easy to confuse addiction with desire.
New Moon: 4 degrees of Scorpio; 11:36 PM EDT
Mars square Saturn
Road blocks are everywhere. It’s necessary to respect the limits of matter. Saturn is at home and strong in Capricorn, wiser in showing us limits than Mars is in Libra wanting to break through no matter what the cost. Consider what will matter in a year or maybe 100 years. It’s worth reigning in the moment in aid of longer term goals.
New Moons always ask us to make an intention. To do that this month requires a profound openness to our feelings. This requires tenderness because feeling makes us vulnerable. As you look to put your intention into words consider how you might develop greater intimacy with yourself or another. Intentions are seeds. They grow mysteriously into something not exactly expected. Deepening intimacy requires trust. Trust takes time.
Sun opposite Uranus
Radical means root. Change is good in theory, especially when it happens to someone else. Resisting change is futile. Whatever your intention was for the new Moon today demands investigation of the root. Where did your desire come from? Why choose that intention? The mystery lives somewhere between the inner world which we aim to hold steady and the world around us which is constantly in flux.
Mercury conjunct Venus
Let the song carry you along the river that leads deep into yourself.
Mercury stationery retrograde 11:42 AM EDT
People celebrate Halloween because it is one of only four days in the year when the veil between the worlds is said to be thinnest. It’s meant to be the half way point between equinox and solstice (although the actual date is closer to November 7th) Some say the veil has become more like a crack, a rift, like the one between who we feel ourselves to be and how we look. Enter Mercury retrograde. It’s up to us if it’s a veil or a crack. Mercury retrograde calls us to remember where we come from, who we are and what needs transformation. To mistake the image of the self as real rather than the inner ebb and flow of feeling is to miss the truth that we are not one person on a journey so much as one species.
Venus enters Sagittarius
On her journey through the heavens, the goddess of love and beauty would always have us understand that whatever our gender we may partake of Venusian matters such as art, and sensuality. To ride with Venus through Sagittarius we might look for better ways to spend our resources. We could walk through the litter of confusion that seems to permeate the world and bless as many people and situations as possible with the generosity of our presence. Venus has returned to her evening star position recently (around September 20th, depending on your horizon…) we can wish upon her beauty till the end of May when she will descend into invisibility during her next retrograde phase.
Venus trine Chiron
Daylight Saving’s Time (DST) ends tonight. Some clocks adjust seemingly on their own, others we set back ourselves as we enjoy (or lament) the illusion of one more hour of daylight even as our body clocks wrestle with it all. How odd that humans feel the need to subjugate time. As if our perceived schedules are ‘better’ than the cosmic clock. We could all move to Saskatchewan where they wisely refuse to change. There is wisdom to be found in the least likely of places today. Be amazed and allow for the learning.
Mars square Pluto
When aggressive impulses are overpowered by force, frustration can be overwhelming. The alternative is to work hard at transforming righteous indignation into fertilizer for new growth in a world we cannot yet quite imagine.
Sun sextile Saturn and trine Neptune
Saturn sextile Neptune
Some see the struggles on our planet as the tension between the intense demands of technology (what I think of as the algorithm monster) and the soul: the soul of each of us as well as the soul of nature, Which is to say the water, the earth, the air and the sacred fire of life. It can’t be a standoff. It has to be some kind of intelligent, integration. Look for it in your own life. This is the clay out of which we fashion a new way of living.
Mercury sextile Pluto
The theme of chosen integration continues. We have the possibility to remain connected to the core of what makes us human even as we participate in the changing world, a shifting landscape filled with failing structures, hopefully making way for newer, organically arising ones. We are the midwives of change, as well as change itself.
Sun conjunct Mercury: A Transit of Mercury
When a planet transits the Sun it’s like an eclipse except the planet is not as large or close to earth as the Moon is so we don’t notice it. Symbolically we could see it as an extra intense conjunction. Mercury and the Sun in such close connection suggests that the messenger (Mercury) has the attention of the Great Beating Solar Heart of life. If you listen you might hear a message from the heart. It might not be loud and obvious. You have to be still and silent to hear it.
Full Moon: 19 degrees Taurus: 08:34 AM EST
Mars sextile Jupiter
If you can read this you are alive. Life itself is pounding and pulsing through you. It won’t always be this way. So we might as well enjoy the simplest of pleasures. Bitter or sweet, it will not last. Do not waste time fearing what you can’t overcome. Look instead to the skills and abilities that can carry you along.
Today is a good day to lean on the scales of justice to make sure they are balanced. Truth comes in many shapes and sizes. Just like people. But it is nonetheless true.

Mercury trine Neptune
Whatever you want to make, today is a great day to work hard with focused determination to help dreams come true.

Disappointment is a fact of life. It hones the soul. Maybe next time your love arrow will hit the mark. Imagine yourself the heroine or hero of a great romance: “And then he…”, “And then she…”. Smoke and mirrors. Pure delight, not meant to be substantial. It’s only a movie.
Mars enters Scorpio
Mars is at home in Scorpio, in fact it was the only ruler of this astrological sign until Pluto was discovered in the early 1930s. That’s a lot of years. In Scorpio Mars reveals its strategic side. Our common understanding of Mars is as the planet of aggression and assertiveness. In Scorpio we find the martial arts side of Mars, the potential to direct and use power from the core, as well as the ability to see the next move of one’s opponent and harness their energy to feed your own. For the rest of this astrological month, while the Sun travels through Scorpio as well, Mars is not too busy. It’s as though he is getting used to being back in town. We’ll see Mars in action between the 21st – 24th when we are asked to work vigorously to deal with the changes in our economic world.
