sagitarius web #2November 21
Sun enters Sagittarius: 04:23 PM EST
Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter. Back in the day, the days that engendered astrology, they thought in terms of kings and lesser mortals. The Sun was king and Jupiter the grand vizier. Something like that. It’s necessary but difficult to change the language of domination. The Sun is the heart. It has no gender but truly it is the most powerful thing in the heavens – especially during the day. Night is another story but no one forgets that the sun will return. Depending on what sign the Sun it in we have different ‘rulers’. For Sagittarius it’s Jupiter. Let me know if you can think of a better word than ruler!

The big astrological news for the next while involves Jupiter and so we pay special attention to the tangle of planetary energies it will encounter: Mercury, Venus, Saturn and Uranus are all engaging with Jupiter although Saturn has not quite yet entered the fray. We could say that the very first thing Jupiter did was help elect a bag of hot air for president. So we might be a bit anxious about what’s next. Forgive my understatement. Suffice it to say that over the next while you will notice many Jupiter transits; some supportive, some not. The backbone of the transits is found when Jupiter squares Pluto. It will do that two more times in 2017. But Jupiter also sextiles Saturn and opposes Uranus. Busy guy. In Libra it brings up issues of justice, balance and the ‘rules of engagement’. Sagittarius is a month when whether we know it or not, we question our faith. And if we don’t question it we consume to drown out the voices. Read on below and you will find out something of Jupiter’s journey. It’s our world. The feeling of being the bystander is challenging especially when the bully is loose.

November 22
Mercury sextile Jupiter
Think about it, all the myriad of possibilities that could set or reset the world: Despite or in reaction to the insidious powers afoot in it. And when you’re done thinking about it, listen.

November 23
Mercury conjunct Saturn
Now look at those possibilities from a realistic perspective. How likely is it you could realize those potentials? And more importantly what is required in terms of effort and commitment? No need to indulge in despair. This is the real, manifest, circumstantial world. The one we live in: Despite the shape shifting impermanence of its nature.

November 24
Jupiter square Pluto
Here is the big issue. And don’t think it’s only active today. It’s been coming for a while. (We could say it’s been cooking since the ‘cardinal cross’ in 2014.) And it will not be done at least until August. Pluto wants transformation of the hierarchy. It rubs its hands together whilst contemplating crumbling infrastructures, economic chaos, over population and ecological disaster. It’s been at it since 2008 when it entered Capricorn. This is just one more challenge on the journey.

Jupiter in Libra talks a good game regarding justice, fairness. But it has a noble intention. It isn’t just hot air, even if it has been hijacked. It’s deeply distressed by the lack of these things in the world. You could say republicans and democrats, conservatives or liberals. You could say 99% and 1 %. Jupiter in Libra is constantly weighing and seeking balance. Doing that requires a lot of ‘either/or’. Pluto is about the power of necessity; the inevitability of now. The time has come. Can we deal with the chaos equitably? If you’re not a politician you can only take this on in your own life in the ways you care for your little part of the world. Take down the hate posters, stand up for the kids. It matters.

November 25
Venus conjunct Pluto
Venus square Jupiter
Venus, the Great She (goddess of matter or possibly what matters) is on the side of necessity (Pluto) today. She wants the blaming to stop and the clean-up to happen. Venus moves fast but speaks with the authority of women: Not an easy thing as we participate in the end of the dominator world. Patriarchy wants Venus only to be beautiful and seductive. She’s out of the habit of her truer nature, the desire to foster a world of beauty and value for everyone. Give her a voice even and especially if it challenges the liars. (Maybe even the ones in your own head telling you to consume more and more. It won’t make anything go away.)

 November 26
Mercury trine Uranus
A moment of revelation. An Aha! A vision to inspire us on the path. Not so much about hope but definitely about faith: Faith in the human inclination to empower the individual; not faith in something or someone ‘out there’.

November 29
New Moon: 7 degrees Sagittarius: 07:18 AM EST
Venus square Uranus
Yesterday was time for letting go; letting things be, resting our weary attempts to look on the bright side or even to sink into despair, once and for all. Today is time to look realistically at what is actually possible; to set our intention individually as well as collectively in the direction of truth. Not the ultimate kind, rather the common sense kind.

November 30
Sun Square Neptune
If you’re deluded, inflated, lying to yourself about anything, today would be a rude awakening. Like you could find yourself trying to breath underwater or thinking you’ll ‘give it up tomorrow, but you gotta live it up tonight’.

December 1
Mars trine Jupiter
The energy for change, for justice, for restoring a rational perspective is strong and aim is true. Who inspires you to action?

December 2
Mercury enters Capricorn
Think strategically; consider the structure of things. Mercury will catch up to Jupiter and Pluto soon enough…

December 3
Mars sextile Saturn
Realistic idealism is the best kind. We can change the world even if we do it one piece at a time. The alternative is chaos; satisfying in the moment but requiring a tremendous effort later and generally generating more chaos.

December 6
Mars sextile Uranus
Since December 1st, Mars has been the good guy; reminding us that we are here together and we can be the change. Things are possible. When Mars shows us his good side it’s about assertiveness and vitality but it’s still about change.

December 7
Venus enters Aquarius
It actually matters what we buy. It is possible to express your ideals through your purchases – or lack of them. It often doesn’t seem this way to a person of seriously limited resources. But there is are alternative ways of trading one thing for another. Put your money where your hopes are.

December 9
Sun sextile Jupiter
Look on the bright side and while you’re looking, seize any opportunity to be fair, just, and equitable. Avoid the dogged ideologues the way you might side-step a dinosaur.

December 10
Mercury sextile Neptune
Sun conjunct Saturn
Think with your feet on the ground and your mind in your heart. In this way the soul (whatever that is) will guide your responsibilities. Do not shirk from what must be done but do it with kindness.

December 12
Sun trine Uranus
What is truth? What fire burns bright in your eyes? And how does that fire illuminate your world? Here in the north it’s a time of short days and long nights. As we draw closer and closer to the shortest and darkest of days the issue of faith is something that comes to mind. Whether we know it or not, we all have faith that the sun will rise every morning. But for the next few days, the night will be lit by the moon. She rises too, but only sometimes.

December 13
Full Moon: 22 degrees Gemini 07:05 PM EST
We can’t believe everything we think and we don’t believe a lot of what other people say. So do you hide out from this by distracting yourself with gadgets and entertainments or do you look for a truth that exists at a deeper level? This is still a choice we can make for ourselves.

December 19
Mars enters Pisces
Mercury stationery retrograde
Were you hoping for a different outcome, say, for example in the big election down south? Thinking in spite of everything, that you might wake up to a different outcome? Now is a good time to reflect on what the ‘real’ in reality really means. Don’t kid yourself. And if you can manage it, don’t kid anyone else either.

December 20
The last full day of autumn. True, it is not summer but here is something to remind you how quiet can create calm. And it’s not so bad to remember summer as we enter winter. The wheel never stops turning.
