We need vision. We need it most when the world is dark. Sagittarius is perhaps the most paradoxical of signs: A great light in a world of darkness. There is a manic quality to this time of year. Call it Advent, as the Christians do: A time when we anticipate and decorate and celebrate and tell ourselves stories of sugar plum fairies, cherished children and idyllic families. Whether or not we know it we prepare for the return of the physical light in the sky; the Sun. Our preparation instinct expresses itself collectively largely via consumption. Many stores do the greatest percentage of their business before Christmas. Once upon a time this was a season when humans felt they were participating in the turning of the Great Wheel. Now it is a time to energize the economy; a different kind of great wheel.
Sagittarius is a finger pointing to the Moon of the next season: Which starts with winter solstice. Our ancestors experienced this quite literally . The finger pointing is not the moon. It shows the way. Today both Sun and Moon enter Sagittarius suggesting a time to reflect upon what guides us, what visions point us in the ‘right’ direction for our journey. Before you string up the lights and deck the halls, remind yourself of cycles and how the inevitable turning of the wheel makes us older whether we let it or not, wiser only if we allow it. Prepare your own way to meet the light as it returns to us and not for the first time.
Listen well to the demands of those you encounter today. The bright light of pride is blocked by the dark shadow of fear and/or power. Most outrageous demands are rooted in the instinct for survival even if it doesn’t seem that way to you

Where does knowing begin? In the mind or in the guts? Today our deepest understandings of this world, our world, comes from below and within. Things are what they are. This is the starting point for true understanding.

A day of passion, breakthrough and delight in all things unusual. Especially for fire signs (Leo, Sagittarius and Aries). As well as a day when we must navigate a world shrouded in a kind of fog which seems both inner and outer. (Especially for mutable signs: Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces). Our vision is called to see outside the box even as it is challenged to watch out for delusions, distractions and con jobs.
Mercury enters Sagittarius
Mercury joins up with the energies of the recent New Moon. If we can know something about the mind of the world from the winged messenger (Mercury) as it enters Sagittarius, we can try to think wisely. We are inundated with new and fascinating neurological insights about the brain; it’s plastic, it reacts this way and that, it is more miraculous than ever we thought. You have a brain and your mind can train it one way or another. Learn something new.
Mercury square Neptune
Right out of the gate, Mercury in Sagittarius encounters Neptune; the great transcendent deceiver and obfuscator or reality. This world is but a dream to Neptune. Now is a time for dreaming and drifting, not for making decisions or thinking you corner the market on truth.
Mars sextile Saturn
The recent bout of fuzzy brain gives way to a time for taking effective, strategic and productive action. Did your mama say there’d be days like this?

Actions grounded in kindness are most effective. Actions that appear kind but are rooted in denial accomplish nothing. A creative flame burns in the heart of all things – including you. Be inspired by this. Despite how hard it can be at times. Life is the greatest gift we ever get.

Revelation is at hand: The kind that is specifically useful to you. It could come through a book, a poem, or an amazing synchronicity. Someone’s hair is on fire.
Full Moon: 14 degrees Gemini: 7:27 AM EST
Media in all its forms is a lot like a collectively sanctioned form of gossip. Humans seem to be compelled to ‘tell all’. We write, we talk, we video, we never stop. If we can’t tell each other we simply tell ourselves and in the telling we often embellish the truth. This Full Moon is a story fest. Tune in, tell all. And remember – sometimes the greatest truths are found in fiction.

A stellar day to sort truth from lies. To be taught by the world around you, to find wisdom in the strangest places, to inspect the contents of your own mind first.

Love is many things. And for most of the world it flourishes when there is trust. Manipulation, when it betrays that trust is a bane to us all. It weakens the fabric of that which we value. So it is.

Be inspired by whatever glimpse you get of something that elevates your thoughts. Look for hope, heart and possibility in everything.

Go to the party; even if you’re shy. Some other shy person will be there too. Guaranteed.

This aspect is the frame for these times we are going through. Not necessarily the up-close-and-personal but the Zeitgeist. (Not the movie.) The first exact square was June 2012. The last will be March 2015. It’s all about the instability, degradation, manipulation and rage of our world as well as severe climate change, war, manipulation, economic injustice… the list is long. It’s also about change; radical, no-going-back change. The need to think outside the box of our current collective mind set. One way to better grasp the meaning of this square is to apply some understanding of quantum reality. Things like strange attractors, bifurcations, fractals and imaginary numbers are not confined to the lab. They are expressed in our lives all the time. We all live here now; poised on the cusp where order and chaos meet; a creative and dangerous place to be sure. And yet, there is no other place to be.

Think strategically for the good of all. Especially when you’re thinking about change.

The last day of autumn is upon us. Dark and short in the northern hemisphere at least. Also it is the last day of the Moon’s monthly cycle. Expect nothing. See everything. Meditate on possibilities that might lead to you be the change, or as Gandhi actually said:
“If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. … We need not wait to see what others do.”
Maybe the real meditation is on how you can change your own nature to change your experience in the world.
Look for the potential gains that can come from transformation. Real bottom-up change. Balance the notion of relentless progress against sustainable alternatives. Be respectful of the ‘ripple effect’. This world is a web of connections on all levels, not simply virtual.
