Sun enters Leo: 10:51 PM EDT
The majestic Sun rises every morning, everywhere on this planet, waking us up, calling us to the day. Leo is the domain of the Sun. It reminds us as it journeys from horizon to the zenith of the sky and back down again, that we are all “of noble birth” and that we all rise and fall. Leo is about pride. In an age when narcissism is rampant and leaders care most about their image and how many votes they can get, we might well ponder the difference between the pride that (We have been told) ‘goeth’ before a fall and the other kind of pride which is born of healthy self-esteem.
We are enthralled by celebrity and images of ourselves which we post for all to see. Have we lost our ability to discern the difference between overweening pride and true self-esteem? This is the Leo question. Can we not see the difference between true courage and extreme sports? Clearly many of us can and many of us can’t. One more person making it to some summit on a mountain top doesn’t take nearly the courage to see and say the truth.
As the Sun travels through Leo this year it will connect to Chiron, Uranus, Jupiter, Venus, Pluto and, as always, the Moon. You can follow along below to see when and how.
Mercury conjunct Venus
When beauty (Venus) meets up with thinking (Mercury) in the realm of nourishment (Cancer) there is no end of creative possibility. Play freely with the materials at hand and see what story gets told through caring. Maybe it’s about food, an excellent day for chefs. Given that Mercury is still retrograde, take care in how you prepare. Wash those veggies!
Mars trine Jupiter
Passionate creative visioning is the great potential today. Fanatic, dogmatic, rhetoric is to be avoided at all costs.
Mars inconjunct Saturn
(Inconjuncts are minor aspects worthy of consideration. They represent the need to adjust or adapt on account of inharmonious conditions. There are a lot of them this month.) Consequences come with the package of life on planet earth. Adjust and adapt all creative expressions for the good of all beings. As best you can.
Venus enters Leo
She’s proud and puts on a good show. Why not join in the fun? Dress to express while Venus is in Leo. (Until August 21st.) If there is a serious side to this it might be that art matters especially when it comes from the heart.
Sun trine Chiron
Everything that happens here on planet earth is a teaching , a lesson, a door to greater wisdom. We don’t need gurus. We need to understand life itself as our teacher; obscure but perfect.
Sun squares Uranus
Think back to July 11 or thereabouts when Mars squared Uranus. Sometimes chaos and change are indistinguishable. Let go lightly as best you can. If, indeed, these times are the birth pangs of the Age of Aquarius, now would be a good time to remember that all births are fraught with pain, danger, loss, gain, exhilaration, possibility. And that most are successful, despite the high stakes.
Mars inconjunct Venus
Be witness though actions and activities, to the overwhelming potential varieties of realities that make our world what it is. An excellent day for clowns and all those who exact or enhance the impossible dreams.
New Moon: 8 degrees of Leo 11:12 PM EDT
Mercury stationery direct
It’s not like we should all wait around and breathe a sigh of relief because Mercury is direct. But somehow we do. It’s a kind of cosmic permission to get a move on. Combined with the new moon, this sense of moving on is increased. For me the New Moon is a time of profound mercy for all our human failings and fears. We make the journey of a moon cycle over each and every month, no two the same. What could be a better metaphor for forgiveness? That we can, once again start anew? In Leo we do it with a full heart knowing that love is like light, permeating everything.
If you’re making an intention for the month consider this: Love knows the truth of identity. Ignorance is no excuse.
Venus trine Chiron
Can you even imagine the healing potential in your heart? Try.
Venus square Uranus
If you could have everything you think you want (you can’t) it would still be you living your life. Let that sink in as you consider all that is and is not in this moment on this day.
Mars inconjunct Pluto
Adjust your will to align, if possible with the (powerful) circumstances you cannot control.
Sun trine Jupiter and inconjunct Saturn
Is it even possible to adjust our faith and vision of the possible world even as we remain willing to see just how things are?
Venus trine Jupiter
If all you needed was love it would be fixed already. Even so it’s a wondrous time to make art, or love or something in a big way.
Venus inconjunct Saturn
Saturn can mean obstacles on the path. But that’s just circumstance. Bound to occur. If you want your vision to made a difference tether it, for now, to something steady even as you prepare for the next curve in the road.
Sun conjunct Venus
Venus inconjunct Pluto
Sun inconjunct Pluto
Shadows fall over our desires, a feeling of despair about why we even bother to want anything. The issues is that there is no point in wanting things that are unsustainable. This is difficult in our world of coercive algorithms that insist we shop relentlessly for things we don’t need and don’t really want.
Full Moon: 22 degrees Aquarius: 08:29 AM EDT
Mercury trine Chiron
Holding hands lessens pain. It’s that simple. Celebrate the ‘full catastrophe’ as you reach out to or for another. We are all here together. Sometimes that’s enough.
Mercury square Uranus
Remember the first half of July when Mercury was retrograde? What did you learn or observe then that could help you deal with the chaos of the paradigm shifts we are in the midst of?
Mars enters Virgo
Things change, energy shifts. The season of play becomes work as the harvest offers its gifts. And the instinct to can, bottle, preserve and stash food and resources for the coming season grows.
Mercury inconjunct Saturn
Venus enters Virgo
Mercury trine Jupiter
How to integrate, adjust, adapt our good fortunes with the world in crisis. There is nature and there is culture. The first is how it is. Nature reminds us just who we are. the second is a river in flood. Culture carries us even when we don’t want to be carried. It’s more than how many plastic bags you don’t use but it still matters that we try to use less and less. May our vision be strong and our process real.
Mercury inconjunct Neptune
Our need for expression can be swamped by images from the collective. We long for escape, to get lost in the dream. It’s easy to lose our sense of purpose and meaning when we can’t express ourselves. How can individual expression embrace the impossible longings that are fundamentally human?
