Sun enters Leo: 05:01 PM EDT
Venus sextile Jupiter
Each of us has a heart, just like our solar system has a sun. Our hearts beat like drums accompanying the rhythm of our lives. Such a precious gift. The Sun in Leo this year will oppose Mars and the Moon at the lunar eclipse. It will also square Uranus and Jupiter. (See specifics below.) We could see these aspects as a call to step up to or into the nobility of heart that each of us has been given. There are many things happening on our planet, some terrible, others wonderful. Denial does not serve, but neither does despair. Transformation requires strength of heart and commitment to purpose. Here we go.
Venus opposite Neptune
If you feel the oncoming wave about to break over you, imagine your life as dedication, devotion and creation of sacred space even as you clean the kitchen, walk the land, brush your teeth or make love. Most especially when you are breathing in and out. Let each task be an offering to life, this very one you’re living at this very moment.
Mercury stationery retrograde
By now you may have figured out that Mercury retrograde is a time for reflection not panic. This one in particular, in Leo, suggests we look into the issue of self-esteem. How much time and energy we waste thinking we are making ourselves feel better when in fact we have not done anything to strengthen the nobility of heart which Leo suggests.
Lunar Eclipse: 4 degrees of Aquarius: 4:20 PM EDT
Sun opposite Mars
Venus trine Pluto
Anything can and does happen. As the poet (sort of) said, “S/he not busy being born is busy dying” . All the amazing things that happen in between our first inhale and our last exhale can make your head spin or your heart ache.
Ask the hard questions, “What’s wrong?” or maybe, “Why is this important and what does it mean?” Hard questions because the answers demand that we let ourselves know something about the fact that other’s feel just as intensely as we do; that we all matter; that life hurts. And that, although we can do something, we can’t do everything.
Mars square Uranus
We are immersed in Mars energy, at least since the eclipse, pounding something home. This square happens three times between May 16th and September 18th. Just as in fairy tales, astrology has a deep respect for anything that happens ‘thrice’. This is the second square, hopefully not simply landing a punch for chaos and weakening foundations. Mars, like some of our so called ‘leaders’ is outrageous in its unpredictability. Mars is the aggressor. Uranus is the change we want to be. Mars in Aquarius is the policy makers. They have, unfortunately become the terrorists. And the people are (as always) the change. In Taurus, Uranus wants economic change. More precisely Uranus likes a good revolution, in this case so that the allocation of resources should no longer be hierarchical. Many people understand what is happening. Change is faster in the mind than on the ground. Meanwhile… back at the ranch… we each and every one of us have our own problems.
Venus enters Libra
Sun square Jupiter
Excessive pride or shame accounts for so much of the world’s problems. Many people cannot contain these feelings and so they turn into dangerous expressions of rage which foster insensitivity to the fact that other people are as real as we are; not to mention elephants, whales, bees and butterflies. It’s an evolutionary moment.
Venus trine Mars
Evil is banal largely because the distance between us allows people to become like parts of a machine: Think Holocaust or The Matrix. We need to reach across the bureaucratic barriers and listen as well as talk to each other. Easily said. Deep change requires full participation.
Sun conjunct Mercury (retrograde) 10:06 PM EDT
There’s a word for this conjunction, ‘cazimi’. It’s a great word conjuring images of a great refining fire. I think of it as a day when we can hear the message in the flame. The great and inherently tricky magician (Mercury), neither good nor evil, dives into the fire and cannot resist commenting on it. For those who have the ears to hear today has something to say.
Venus square Saturn
To want more than to meet our simple needs leads to greed. Yet to ignore the fact that you will need to support and feed yourself tomorrow is folly. To prove you deserve to be secure is a waste of energy. What if we could live comfortably with the paradox and remember that it is as true for me as it is for you?
New Moon (partial eclipse): 18 degrees of Leo: 5:58 AM EDT
Deep within each of us is a secret self that sees the world and is aware, more or less. Do you know this part of yourself? The New Moon reminds us of this as it inscribes, and yet another circle around the Sun.
Mars retrogrades back into Capricorn
Somewhere in each of us, some more some less, we have been struggling, at least since June 26th when Mars went retrograde; with self, with others, with the world. Having met the enemy or negotiated with the friend, it is now time to take charge and implement that which has been decided. Hopefully you are not inclined to build a wall to keep others out but to manage a world that works for the good of as many as possible.
Mercury sextile Venus
If you had a magic wand and could make someone’s wish come true who would you bless with your powers? See if you can bestow a wish.
Mercury stationery direct
Jupiter trine Neptune
A positive approach works wonders but it can’t be faked. Let your good intentions be rooted in true feeling. We are all one. Fake smiles doesn’t really do the trick. Real ones always engage the heart.
If you hanker for Sun Sign astrology you can read my sun sign writings in Vitality Magazine.
You may wonder why all the days of the month are not represented in this column and what I have done with the days that are missing. On those days there are no mutual aspects between the planets and the Sun (the Moon makes too many to mention besides the full and new). The wanderers (planets) give those days to the ‘wayfaring moon’ only. The Moon by sign and phase always carries the underlying mood of the moment: The fluctuation of emotion.
