December 21: Winter Solstice
Sun enters Capricorn: 11:29 AM EST
Sun conjunct Saturn
Winter solstice is possibly the most sacred time of the year. Whether we acknowledge it or not there is a kind of despair that we feel as the days darken. This is even stronger when the night is also dark because the moon is not up in the sky. This has been our situation for the last while. But today is the change. Much is gained by sitting in the dark, waiting for the light to return, as we discover that which lives in the dark. Not horrors but mysteries; beauty that can only be found in the depths. If we are patient and still we feel the magic of the moment when the waning is done and the light is born. Perhaps darkness is more desperate in our times because we have tried so hard to kill it off with our electric lights which obliterate the heavens as well as our inner darkness. Truly the dance of light and dark is deeply significant to any and all life forms. We need the comfort of darkness to sleep and recharge; we revel in the awareness and possibility of light as it dawns.
The simple fact of the sun at the solstice point at the same time as Saturn is an amazing symbol for the coming together of light and dark. For the need to apply our sense of sacred unfolding to the world as it is. To consume less and respect more. I’ll leave it to you to figure out where you might apply the wisdom of less consumption and more respect for our resources.
Mercury stationery direct
People like to tell themselves if they even think along these lines, that Mercury has gone direct and now I can get on with my life. Business as usual. If we aren’t changed by our experiences what would be the point? The future arises from this moment. There is nothing ‘usual’ about living with so much uncertainty but it does enable us, if we are aware, to see the constantly shifting horizon. That seems to have been Mercury’s journey this time.
Venus enters Capricorn and Conjuncts Saturn
At the actual solstice we had Saturn conjunct the Sun. Now it’s Venus’ turn to be renewed in the heart of the sun. It’s always a process. It always involves letting go if you want to move along. Where is the gift? The one you find in your heart. Which is not, generally the one you wish for so much as the one you find mysteriously there where it might have been all along. Waiting to be noticed.
Mars trine Neptune
For some of us the world is full of wonder, for others it seems more like a horror show. The rest of us understand that, depending on where you’re standing and how you’re holding that position the world looks one way or another. Make an effort to feel whatever it is you feel (good, bad or ugly) and open to the absurd wonder of how quickly feeling changes. It’s impossible to hold on to water unless you freeze it.
Full (super) Moon 11 degrees of Cancer: 9:24 PM EST
Super Moons are like show offs who really want you to know how really big they are. This one requires us to look around at what you might protect in aid of preserving the soul – now and for the year. Celebrate the fact that you can.
Sun sextile Neptune
Uranus stationery direct
We tend to look to the future with hope and/or fear. Neither is really that useful – except as a way to distract from the present. In the Here and Now we all sense that we’re on a ride of change and not exactly in control of where that is taking us as individuals or part of the collective. Best to stand our ground in awareness that, whatever lies ahead will require resilience. Holding tight to expectation is to be the master of our own oblivion.
Venus sextile Neptune
Beauty, the invisible embrace, is always a possibility, could save the world, this one. Do not confuse it with glamour.
Mercury trine Uranus
Mars conjunct Jupiter
Brilliant, eureka moments like Champaign bubbles effervescing everywhere. Along with a fierce need to act from the guts. Problem is that our guts, although they always speak the truth, do not necessarily know how to act. To understand the difference between a true feeling and a projection is to be more awake than asleep.
Sun sextile Jupiter
Venus sextile Jupiter
Mars sextile Pluto
Sextiles are all about opportunity; you can take it or leave it but why would you ever leave it? Jupiter loves good fortune. Mars and Pluto not so much, they like ruthless truth. Put it all in the same pot and you come up with something like: Be a blessing of truth every chance you get. And may that truth be wise in the way of human nature which ultimately means forgiving.
Sun conjunct Venus
Venus conjunct Pluto
Sun conjunct Pluto
Venus sextile Mars
So much astrological activity, like a pinball machine on tilt. Conjunctions are not like sextiles. They are about fusion, concentration. Conjunctions with the Sun are different than the rest. They indicate a time when we must renew something. In this case we need to bring new life to our values and our fear of not having what we want. This new life is not bright and shiny, not yet anyway. At the moment it’s real and earthy. Consider the benefits of real embodiment.
Sun sextile Mars
When Scorpio (Mars) and Capricorn (Sun) work together things change. From the bottom up and the inside out. It’s the kind of change you might not notice right away but it’s the foundation for more and more change.
Mercury enters Capricorn
How we think about the world matters. Our thoughts become speech and so it goes.
Mercury conjunct Saturn
Venus square Uranus
If you really read this stuff, this astrology, you come to realize, sooner or later that today’s square was yesterday’s trine. The Great Wheel keeps turning, sometimes guiding us if we know how to use it. At other times it’s a passing entertainment and leaves no trace of significance. Either way, astrological or not, today was made to break things apart and in the breaking, to discover how they were made.
Sun square Uranus
From broken pieces we can make beautiful new ones. You don’t have to love the breaking but that doesn’t have to keep you from the making.
Jupiter sextile Pluto
It’s that Scorpio Capricorn combination again. The root of real change is everywhere. Ours to discover. What needs changing in your life? By letting go we invite the new way, the sustainable possibilities are everywhere. Love is the answer, no matter what the question. The battle between men and women might be at the core. Could bell hooks be onto something? Has she glimpsed the pearl of great price that has been lost for 10,000 years? More or less…
New Moon: 26 degrees Capricorn: 09:17 PM EST
Time to manage what is ours to manage, for the good of all, as best we can. We make choices all the time about what to use and what to throw away, what to cultivate and what to suppress. New Moons are new beginnings. A reminder that it’s never, ever too late.
Venus enters Aquarius
If you love friendliness, this one’s for you.
