Sun in Cancer: 11:54 AM EDT
Neptune stationery retrograde
We all want to feel secure, to nurture and nourish the people and situations that hold us in circles of care and connection, now more than ever as the world seems to teeter closer and closer to an unmanageable level of chaos. Cancer is the sign that does that best. This month the Sun in Cancer will meet up with Neptune, Pluto and Saturn, some heavy hitters. See below for specifics.
Today is the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere. This is a significant turning point in the year as it appears that the Sun stands still and a fundamental change of light begins to take place. Today, the day is as long as it can be. Starting tomorrow or the day after, despite the great light, the long days light will begin to diminish. There is something profoundly paradoxical at the solstices. The longest day has the seed of the longest night hidden in the folds of her dress.
Today is also one of two days in the year when Neptune is stationery: One as it turns direct and this one as it turns retrograde. We can’t say that Neptune has a solstice because only the Sun has that. But, if it did have one it would be on the days of the stations when it appears to stand still and change direction. In this case the paradox might be found in a sense that dreams are made of memory yet we lean into them as if they are the future.
We might consider taking some time for a bit of contemplation on these elusive subjects. At the very least we might marvel at how seeds of darkness are found in light, as well as what it might take to remain present even as we are tossed on the waves of memory and anticipation.

Ask yourself, ‘How do I lie to myself about what I think I need and what I know I want?’ Desire is a strange and powerful force. It is compelling beyond measure and evaporates like morning dew. Too much of it becomes greed, not enough of it can turn toward despair. No harsh judgments necessary, just the simple truth will do.
Venus square Neptune
The impossibility of truth and lies haunts the world. At times like these when people we should trust are engaged in sleight-of-hand, promising the world while they pick our pockets, the best thing to trust is your feelings. Let them speak but don’t turn them into action. It’s enough to listen.
Mercury enters Leo
Who knows what can happen when we have the courage to accept our world as it is, with a creative mind? Courage and creativity are inextricably linked. Think about this as Mercury travels into and through the shadow of its soon-to-be retrograde journey.

Opportunities to help us break away from the way things are and have always been are plentiful. We also need to honor who gets hurt by change, to help accommodate their losses. Not a single creature on the planet is instinctively happy to lose habitat, family members or their own life unless, perhaps they are insane or saintly.
Mars enters Leo
Mars joins Mercury in Leo, pushing on the stationery point of Mercury’s retrograde motion even as they each approach a square to Uranus. If you were writing the screen play this would be a moment of high drama, at least until the 12th. In Leo, the inherent qualities of Mars which are aggressive and assertive are tempered by the possible Leo quality of courage. Mars in Leo is heroic and can play to the audience. But who is watching? Mars can take us through the most difficult times if we use it to support life and love. It helps us overcome fear and lay waste to the selfish delusion of entitlement. Or not. Buffoons in high places are not courageous. They insult the clowns. The other side of Mars in Leo is blind attachment and self-interest. What will you enact or applaud? Courage or narcissistic self-aggrandizement?
New Moon: 10 degrees Cancer: 3:16 PM EDT Eclipse
What’s climate change to you? How do you support the people who grow your food? What are they dealing with in the season of fire and erosion of topsoil? If we are what we eat (we are) this New Moon wants us to align with where that food comes from. Make an intention to support your local farmers. Or maybe fight on behalf of the bees because Cancer functions best in a hive. Most of all to remember that enough is as good as a feast.
Venus enters Cancer
You might see Venus in Cancer as soft and nurturing, a sign of love for the children. But these days the children are fierce, anxious, and hard to manage. To love them we too must be all those things. We all feel vulnerable and in need of protection as our habitat is compromised by the unavoidable need for change. What would the Queen bee do?
Mercury stationery retrograde
A challenging leg of the journey as this period begins with a strong hit of Mars and Uranus, who are not getting alone with each other. Allow yourself to be shocked and disrupted. Desensitizing ourselves to what’s happening only feeds denial. Cultivating the courage to be present to a world gone or going mad is the practice. No one goes mad if they turn aggression toward service. Acknowledging what is, is not the same as passive acceptance. It’s the cornerstone of right effort. It encourages appropriate response rather than reaction. Keep the retrograde in mind. This is not a time to risk all, rather a time to pay attention, make observation and cultivate eyes that can actually see.

Everything about yesterday still applies (and will, at least till the 21st). Possibly the only benefit of chaos is that it allows for great change. Doors close around us but different, almost unrecognizable doors open. Think outside your box but do not rush madly off just yet. All actions have consequences that are harder to see when Mercury is retrograde, no matter what Mars wants.
Sun opposite Saturn
Outside the box or in, we need to respect the limits of matter. Check your equipment. Even lofty, fearless sky divers need parachutes that work, otherwise it’s a different kind of dive.

Planet earth is like tinder box, vulnerable to the wrong match. Summer has become the season of fire. We are exploding into a new age. Even so each of us has a stillness at the core, no matter the rest.
Sun opposite Pluto
The adversary is invisible, most likely created or at least embellished by the images in your mind. Projections are rife. If you had the power of invisibility in this age of no privacy what would you do with it? Would you rob a bank or topple a dictator? Would you be a spy or a guardian?
Full Moon: 24 degrees Capricorn: 05:38 PM EDT Eclipse
Venus inconjunct Jupiter
This lunar eclipse continues to activate the Sun Pluto opposition. The astrological axis of Cancer (Sun) and Capricorn (Moon) is about security and responsibility. Our fears regarding who is in control of resources are, unfortunately, not unfounded. Fear inspires us to act (not always rationally). Some say love is the opposite of fear, others say reason. Venus and Jupiter struggle with this, suggesting that we make effort to love without dogma: That we struggle against the human tendency toward righteousness.
Venus opposite Saturn
From now until July 21st Venus will aspect Saturn, Neptune and Pluto. Today her mission is about structure and responsibility. Do what you can to deal with the actual circumstances in your way. They are not intrusions. They are simply what is.
Venus trine Neptune
Love and longing can take us down into addiction or up into cosmic bliss. Substances are ultimately unsatisfying because you can never get enough. To be one with nothing and everything is a hard place to stay and an easy place to get lost, even if it’s some kind of inspiration for life down here in the so-called ‘real world’. What’s a human to do? Astrology is good, and so is music, at a time like this.
Mercury retrograde reenters Cancer
Mercury continues to dominate the astrological landscape, reminding us to let go, be aware and slow down reaction time. In Cancer, Mercury activates powerful memories and possibly deep conditioning. We see sunlight shining on the water and we remember. We smell the scent of summer on the wind. It might be car exhaust mixed with BBQ and suddenly we are back there, somewhere which is not here, not now. To re-member is to put the pieces of our the past back together, to make sense of the broken pieces. To be lost in the past without realizing the present is not helpful. To bridge who you were with who you are now, is the art of living when Mercury is in Cancer.

At some point, on this last day of Cancer, listen with all your senses. Let images rise up as you ride the intensity of feeling back to its root. We are here for a short time and gone for ages upon ages. Memories are like fish, some we catch, some we don’t. Memory is a gift of the mind, a way for the messenger to send us a message.
