Mercury Conjunct Venus
Sun enters Aries: 12:16 PM EDT Vernal Equinox
Aries is a kind of razor’s edge, the perfect balance of light and dark, yang and yin, masculine and feminine, but only for a moment. Then the gunshot, the starting blast and we are off to the races as light begins to overtake night and the impulses for planting and birthing arise at the same time. In some places the seeds as well as the lambs are dropping like crazy. For the rest of us the day is rich with symbolism. Even if Mercury is about to be retrograde (again). Spring has sprung!
Mercury stationery retrograde
Mercury retrograde does not require us to hide out or avoid life; it is natures’ reminder that our lives require reflection and contemplation. Listen for the song of Aires, the one that says, “I am, I am, I am.” We have honed our identity to such a degree we live in our singularity much of the time, which is to say, in our heads. It’s really hard on the kids to come of age in a world that seems hell bent on trading a genuine sense of identity for the image of identity. We see ourselves in pictures, forgetting that identity is not separate and alienated but a vital generator of life force which determines our trajectory for living. Mercury retrograde is a time to listen for this: Inside and out.

Radical is a word that comes from ‘root’. When our sense of value, of love and beauty needs radical transformation we easily loose heart. Be assured that what is transforming today will emerge at a later time – maybe even as early as the 28th – with greater vitality. Which part of desire needs to simmer and bubble in the cauldron of change? What are you holding tightly to you when only letting go will allow you to have it?

Pay attention to the battles raging around or within you. It’s a bit like the battle of giving birth. Intense, impossible, requiring deep surrender and focus. Perhaps we could say it’s a battle between freedom and discipline. We cannot get to freedom without discipline. Maybe we would rather not be bothered by what’s happening but it’s still happening. Consider this ancient Greek wisdom: “We don’t rise to the level of our expectations, we fall to the level of our training”.
For most of us, our training, even if we aren’t official warriors, is our habitual reactions. Anything we do over and over.

If you really pay attention, remaining curious and interested, you can see that everything changes. Today the effort to hone our values and actually live sustainable lives could rise, phoenix-like from ashes of doubt and loss. Be amazed because,She does indeed change everything She touches. Change, like love, just IS.

If you’re fighting with circumstances that seem to block your passions, stop, right now. Do the heavy lifting. And never forget: If it’s in the way, it is the way.

Venus enters Taurus
Be witness to the fruits of your efforts. If they seem paltry, that might be a reminder that you need some balance. On one side of the scales is your conditioning. Your inner, wounded child reminding you how hard it was. On the other side of the scales is a test of your commitment to the challenges of your life. Avoid sentimentality Some things are really too hard and others are hard only because we don’t want to do what is required.
Live life as if the choices you make matter, the clothes you buy, the coffee you drink, the time you spend. Resources matter.

Who is the fool if you, yourself, don’t listen to the still, small voice?
Mars conjunct Saturn
If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well. Trite but true. And then there is this: ‘If I thought the world was ending, I would plant a tree.’ It’s always ending and we may as well be planting trees.

If you’re afraid of Mercury retrograde you’re telling yourself a story that feels true because others are telling themselves the same story. Better to investigate. There are some circumstances (Saturn) that require us to do (Mars) something. But perhaps you don’t fully understand how or why. Maybe you need more information or instruction (Mercury) but you aren’t sure where to find it or who to trust (retrograde). Better to accept the struggle than to force a result. If Mercury ‘wants’ anything while it’s retrograde it is reflection, contemplation and observation.

The rewards of taking time and respecting process are obvious, especially for earth signs: Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. We should never have to prove or earn love; it’s the stuff of life. On the other hand it sure feels good to live according to our values. If that just happens to mean putting women in charge, that’s OK too.

One person’s reward is often another person’s loss. As the Dominator Age unravels and falls into seeming chaos we are at a bit of a loss to know how to show up. Are we waiting for the fire or flood? Should we simply seize the day? Take to the streets? Run for cover? Follow the leader? Most of us just keep on keeping on, as we push the fear under in all the ways that are familiar to us. There is no right way. But it helps to be aware that through it all you breathe in and you breathe out. Just the way you have been since the beginning and will continue until the end.

Chiron enters Aries
The stillness before the New Moon can be like the shoreline when the wave recedes: full of interesting life forms you don’t usually see. Not to be snatched as trophies rather to be revered as reminders of how much lives where it cannot be seen by humans, only felt. Let this inspire you to tread with care through the days of your one, precious life.
Chiron is not a planet. But astrologers are often fascinated by it. The last time it entered Aries in 1968 it hadn’t been discovered yet. t was a time of powerful social change and unrest. As Chiron made its way through Aries in the 70s many turned away from collective transformation in favor of personal growth. To some it seemed a sell-out because what’s the point of being peaceful if you’re surrounded by war? To others a necessary process because, as they saw it, real change has to come from within. (Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me). These times are long gone and it’s different, once a heavenly body has been discovered and written into the conscious lexicon of mythic images. The world seems to be in worse shape than it was then. But that definitely depends on where you are standing at the time. Personal change has been amazing even as the world seems to be struggle with the top down ravages of a culture based on materialistic domination of the many by the few. Chiron in Aries might just be an indication that to heal the traumas of individuals we must heal the social conditions that surround, support and enable abusers. Chiron is the wisdom we gain from our woundedness – not something to cling to, something that makes us wiser and more compassionate. Something we must share.

The wave returns, crashing once again on the shoreline, hopefully inspiring us to begin again, to make our intention clear to ourselves. I once had a spiritual teacher who would say, in his hypnotic tone, ‘There is no self; there is no other.’ It was comforting in moments when I felt too separate from the world, too singular. The illusion that we need others to affirm our existence is a given in that we are all self, and we are each other. An Aries New Moon combined with Mercury going direct is an exciting moment of birth. Never forget how vulnerable and needy a new-born is. We are fearless when we allow our hearts to burn with the fire of love, especially if we are aware that ultimately it will burn itself up and that although it expresses us, there is nothing we can do about it. We can only let it move and motivate us.

Every loss leaves room for a gain. Every gain will eventually be lost. This is the wisdom and the frustration of Taurus (Venus) and Scorpio (Jupiter). We can be wise (Jupiter) or we can look for someone or something to blame for our pain (Jupiter). Truth is, we are beings who attach to things and people, to stories and situations: To just about anything we can see, feel, taste, touch, or smell. Saturn reminds us that we are here, in this one precious life. That no matter what is happening we can, should, and must deal with it because to not deal with it is just another way of dealing with it.
Sun conjunct Uranus
An awesome finale to a month of new beginnings (Aries). We breakthrough, break out, or just break. In any case we are deeply engaged in the end of something which implies the beginning of something else. To live in the gap of change is unsettling and frightening but the alternative is not an option!
