Sun enters Aquarius 4:44 AM EST
New Moon: 0 degrees of Aquarius: 8:15 AM EST
It’s rare enough to have the Sun and Moon so new on the first day of a new (astrological) month. Yet so it has been in October, November and December. The New Moon in Scorpio, Sagittarius and Capricorn all occurring as the Sun entered the sign. New beginnings are promised here. This is the last one of this series. I think we should make the most of it. Zero degrees (the first degree of a sign) is akin to a new seed sprouting. Here in Aquarius the seed is intention itself. Austin Coppock in his book, 36 Faces: The History, Astrology and Magic of the Decans, describes the first degrees of Aquarius as a place where we abandon ‘the the protective but oppressive shell of the world-system … in favor of the promise of what might be beyond. It’s a signature for the ‘eccentric, exile, the rebel and the pioneer.’ P. 226.
We are called to go beyond our known world and imagine something utterly new. We may feel alienated or outside the herd but for some of us this may lead to freedom and independence from outworn structures. This is not a passive exercise. It’s not about wishing, it’s about the power of the mind to be stubborn and hold on to what is already known and familiar, or to open to the possibility of using what we already know to help us see into what we don’t know. Look for the seed of an idea that could change (your) life. Nurture it despite not knowing where it will take you.
Mercury stationery retrograde
Are you drowning in T.M.I. about Mercury Retrograde? Or are you out of it because you don’t have a clue? Maybe it has nothing to do with the astrology you just feel overwhelmed or clueless anyway.
My suggestion is to read this and/or this and decide for yourself what’s relevant and what isn’t. Astrologically speaking the next few weeks (till February 11th ) are about letting things happen, not making them happen. It’s good practice.
Sun sextile Saturn
At the heart of light is great darkness. At the heart of darkness we find great light. There is a lifetime worth of study in this thought. Contemplate the yin and yang of existence. Consider the mystery of how a thing can contain its opposite. Allow the opportunity that comes from this wisdom to benefit today’s projects.
Venus enters Pisces
Sometimes you can only think of a ship, gliding through deep waters in the night. Stars glittering overhead, alone out there. An image of exquisite beauty. The sea, so great, the boat, so small. Our images take us places we can use for escape or greater awareness. They are fragments of the whole; pieces of truth and beauty; beautiful shards of promise.
Mercury retrograde sextile Uranus
A good day to remember something you never knew you knew.
Venus square Saturn
Mars sextile Pluto
Mercury conjunct the Sun
Of all the days during the Mercury retrograde period, this is the day when we might hear something if we take the time to listen. Even if our beautiful dream ship has foundered on the rocky shores of the Land of Responsibility. Everything is grist for the mill. Even if you are only doing dishes and walking the dog. We do many things for love even if we have temporarily forgotten that it is love that calls us to do them.
Venus conjunct Neptune
One minute she founders on the rocks. The next thing you know the sky has become sea and she’s up there, beautiful as can be, riding through the cloudy night of our dreams. Poetic, even if you aren’t a poet.
Sun sextile Uranus
Amid the stacks of books filled with knowledge of many things and arising from the sturdy foundations of those who have left their accumulated knowledge behind, there is tremendous inspiration for how to deal with any situation. Even the big ones like war, famine and climate change. What it takes is a willingness to not-know, to learn. ‘In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities, in the expert’s mind there are few’.
Full Moon: 14 degrees Leo: 06.09 PM EST
Love is the greatest hook to life. We confuse its lesser emanations with the real thing and we say love ties us to things like cheese cake and bad people. There is a difference between love and desire. Celebrate real love for a change; a change in your own life.
Mercury retrograde sextile Saturn
Inside your mind are ideas that have merit; that you understand with clarity when you think them but get murky when you try to express them. Such is the nature of the manifest world. Make every effort to express what you know through art or science, through education or simply between you and someone who matters to you.
Sun opposite Jupiter
It is in opposition to the Sun that a planet shines most brightly. Jupiter is bright anyway. Perhaps you have seen it in the evening sky, when the Sun is nowhere to be found. This is symbolic of a love light that shines and illuminates for the sake of love alone. The gift of this opposition is in accepting the challenge to express knowledge which is rooted in love. Do not compromise truth for the sake of pride or ego. Oppositions can be difficult if you don’t rise to the challenge.
Venus sextile Pluto
Desire is loose. Consider what obsessions desire produces in you. Are they rooted in trauma? Are they meant to transform your world? Both/and is a real possibility. The obsession to heal transforms the world. Include beauty in this dance.
“There is an unseemly coarseness to our times, which robs the grace from our textures of language, feeling and presence. Such coarseness falsifies and anaesthetizes our desire. … Greed is unable to envisage any form of relationship other than absorption or possession. However, when we awaken to beauty, we keep desire alive in its freshness, passion and creativity.
New Moon: 29 degrees 59 minutes Aquarius 6:47 PM EST
This new moon is at the very last degree and minute of Aquarius. We are no longer in the zero degree field. I think of 29 degrees as the quantum degree; the gap between the end and the beginning; the cat inside Schrodinger’s box. Even so, at the new moon we are meant to plant seeds, to make intentions, to align ourselves with all that could be. The task of this new moon is to align with radical, unpredictable, inevitable change. This is that time we have so long imagined in our movies and books. Poets have seen it coming for a long time. Do you feel the world ‘slouching toward Bethlehem’ ? Are you aligned with the still point of the turning wheel or the periphery? You can’t fake it. If it’s the still point you want you must sit still. If you are happy spinning the world, living on the rim, that’s fine too. You might even go back and forth. Just align yourself with your intention. That is what is required at this moment.
