There are most definitely astrological shifts occurring as we ride into the New Year. I am always interested in the numerological stamp of the year. 2+0+1+8= 11 which I believe is a ‘master’ number. How I look at it is to connect it to the 11th tarot card of the major arcana which is Justice. And couldn’t we use some of that at this point? Having completed a # 10 year which is the Wheel of Fortune (misfortune for many, I believe) it seems like it’s time to balance the scales. Of course, where there is Justice there is also the possibility of Injustice: Definitely one of the themes for 2018.
Astrologically speaking we are in the process of leaving a fiery year and entering more earthy times as Saturn has entered Capricorn and Uranus will enter Taurus in May. Fire burns and creates. Fire puts a spin on things and shows us a vision of truth. The two big astrological fire events of 2017 were the Great American Eclipse in the later degrees of Leo and Saturn at the Galactic Center. Much has been written about these things by me as well as other astrologers. Consider where the fires burned for you personally as well as the outrageously destructive fires that burned so many of our forests and cities.
When fire turns to earth we are meant to ‘get real’ to deal with the nuts and bolts of our circumstances. Vision is one thing, lies are another. But whether we buy the false visions of politicians or the more authentic ones that arise from our own inner sight the times require us to walk the talk. Hopefully it will be harder to walk the talk of lies than truth. Truth of course is relative but when it comes to earth signs truth is found in circumstance. We may like the idea of retreating into the notion that life is but a dream. However, as Jack Kornfield has said,
If you tell a Zen master everything is like a dream,
she will take her stick and whack you over the head.
Then she will ask, “Is that a dream?”
So 2018 promises to shock or awaken us to the fact that it matters, what we do and how we do it. It’s an exciting and unnerving ride through a world ablaze with suffering, mismanagement and a patina of lies to confuse us all. I’m in! I hope you are too because there is no other life or world in which we can truly abide.
If you would like a more personal view of the year to come you might enjoy ‘The Moons of 2018’ and/or ‘Written in the Stars’ and of course there is always the option of a reading by myself or one of the many other competent astrologers alive and practicing on Planet Earth.
